The URA and SPF have recently announced a public tender for a proposed Next-Generation Driving Centre (NGDC) at Lorong Bistari in Choa Chu Kang. The new facility will replace the existing Bukit Batok Driving Centre (BBDC), which is expected to close by 2030 to make way for residential developments. Spanning over 2.4 hectares with a maximum gross floor area of 780,390 square feet, the NGDC is set to become a modern, technology-driven hub for training drivers of all vehicle classes.

According to the URA, the NGDC will feature state-of-the-art driving circuits, simulator-based training, and real-time monitoring systems to enhance driver assessment and safety. It will also offer Class 4 and 5 heavy vehicle training, filling the gap left by the Singapore Safety Driving Centre (SSDC), which is currently the only facility providing such courses.

“The NGDC is a significant step towards smarter and more efficient driver education,” says Superintendent Lim Wei Kiat, director of the traffic police department. “The integration of advanced simulation and monitoring technologies will help elevate safety standards and ensure consistency in training outcomes.”

Strategically located near the Yew Tee MRT station, the Lorong Bistari site will improve accessibility for motorists in the West region, supplementing the existing training facilities in the North and East.

As Singapore continues to intensify land use, the NGDC is a prime example of how essential infrastructure is being reimagined for the future. “With multi-storey training centres like the NGDC, we can strike a balance between innovation and efficient land use,” says Ang Li Wen, group director for physical planning at URA.

The tender for the NGDC will close on 15th January 2026 at 12pm.
