Sla Board Names Loh Lik Peng New Chairman Succeeding Yeoh Oon Jin

August 1 will mark the appointment of Loh Lik Peng as the new chairman of the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) Board. With over two decades of experience in the hospitality industry, Loh is best known for converting conservation shophouses into boutique hotels, starting with Hotel 1929 on Keong Saik Road. He also opened the New Majestic Hotel in Chinatown and Wanderlust in Little India, before divesting his hotel assets in Singapore. Today, Unlisted Collection, of which he is the founder and director, manages a portfolio of restaurants in Singapore and Shanghai, as well as hotels and restaurants in London, Dublin, Wicklow, and Cork County in Ireland.

Loh has been a member of the SLA board since August 2017 and was appointed deputy chairman in August 2020. He takes over from Yeoh Oon Jin, former executive chairman of PwC Singapore, who will step down as chairman on July 31 after serving on the board since August 2016. Under Yeoh’s leadership, SLA has championed the adaptive reuse of state properties for social and community purposes, such as the transformation of the Former St Andrew’s Mission Hospital into a vibrant community and lifestyle cluster. Yeoh also played a key role in driving the development of the Digital Conveyancing Portal, which digitized the manual, paper-based conveyancing process. He also led initiatives such as SLA being elected co-chair of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management and the implementation of the refreshed National Geospatial Masterplan.

Loh’s appointment marks a new chapter for SLA as it continues to drive progress and innovation in the management of Singapore’s land resources. His experience and passion for revitalizing heritage properties and integrating them into the fabric of the city will be a valuable asset to the board. As he takes on this new role, Loh will no doubt build upon the strong foundation laid by Yeoh and further contribute to the development of Singapore’s land and geospatial information management.

One of the major advantages of the Master Plan is its impact on educational facilities. It strongly promotes the establishment of learning and research centres in regional hubs, providing significant benefits to the community. This includes the advancement of schools, the construction of new preschool centres, and the potential creation of satellite campuses or institutes for continuing education. This encourages a culture of lifelong learning for individuals of all ages and further enhances the desirability of homes located in areas with well-equipped schools and enrichment programs. The upcoming Miltonia EC is also set to benefit from this development, providing a conducive environment for families with children to thrive and grow.
