Mount Pleasant Estate Have 6000 Hdb Flats 5000 Previously Announced

In a press release on September 2, the Housing and Development Board (HDB) announced that there will now be four Build-to-Order (BTO) projects in the upcoming Mount Pleasant estate. This will yield about 6,000 new flats upon completion, which is an increase of 1,000 units from the initial 5,000 units announced for the 33ha site. HDB states that this increase was due to further detailed planning studies and will help to meet the high demand for housing. The first BTO project, Mount Pleasant Crest, will be launched in the October 2025 BTO exercise and will offer about 1,350 units ranging from two-room flexi to four-room flats, as well as 270 units of public rental flats. The “white flat” layout, where flat buyers can opt for an open-concept layout without partition walls, will be offered at this project. This will be the second BTO project to offer this layout, following the successful launch of Crawford Heights BTO project in October last year. HDB reports that about four in 10 flat buyers opted for the white flat layout at that project. The Mount Pleasant estate is situated on the site of the Old Police Academy (OPA), near the Thomson Flyover off the Pan Island Expressway. The OPA was formerly used as the training institute for the Singapore Police Force (SPF) until 2005. Out of the six buildings on the site, four will be repurposed for alternative uses such as a neighbourhood police post and SPF Heritage Gallery. One block will continue to serve as the Senior Police Officers’ Mess, while another will be integrated into future developments. Additionally, the former OPA parade square will be retained as public space for community use. The new Mount Pleasant MRT Station on the Thomson-East Coast Line will serve the estate, which will be a car-lite development with dedicated bus lanes, wider footpaths, and cycling paths through Transit Priority Corridors. New roads, including one main thoroughfare called “Old Police Academy Road”, will also be constructed to enhance accessibility. Furthermore, there will be a sheltered pedestrian thoroughfare that connects the various precincts in Mount Pleasant, as stated by HDB.Also, the location of Mount Pleasant near Toa Payoh, as well as the presence of schools like CHIJ Primary Toa Payoh and Singapore Chinese Girls’ School, is expected to draw strong interest in the Mount Pleasant Crest BTO project. According to Lee Sze Teck, senior director of data analytics at Hiuttons Asia, the project may be classified as a Prime BTO due to its location in a mature estate with high resale flat prices. Prime flats are subject to tighter rules, such as a 10-year minimum occupation period and a subsidy clawback. Eugene Lim, key executive officer at ERA Singapore, also points out that the white flat layout at Mount Pleasant Crest may attract younger Singaporeans and homeowners intending to do extensive renovations as it allows for customisation of the layout to cater to their housing needs. On a final note, the new Mount Pleasant estate is set to add more public housing options in the Central Region and is part of Singapore’s ongoing efforts to keep public housing affordable while also renewing older estates.
